The Draft Part I
At 16 all children of the Realm were conscripted into public service for two years. The ideal was away from family they would acquire self confidence and learn a trade or have an idea of what occupation to pursue after their return home. Connie saw the draft as her escape from a life she didn’t consent to and saw no other way to escape her confinement but through the draft. She was determined to make the most of her two years, and disappear from those that felt it was their duty to return her to a life she had no intention of returning to.
